Legendi järgi olevat Nofretete olnud Egiptuse iludusjumalanna ja mõnda aega ka Egiptuse valitsejanna. Ta oli sõbralik ja uhke, õnnelik ja meeleheitlik, ennastohverdav ja külm - kütkestav naine. Kunstiteadlaste arvamuse järgi olevat Nofretete naise iluideaali kehastus.
